No Tickets Needed to Watch the Moral High Jinx of White/Jindal

high-jinx-5

When five people in John White’s posse (Network Leaders) are being paid (I hesitate to use the word “earned” here) almost $700K, one might imagine a great deal is being accomplished for that outlay of the people’s money.

And one would be wrong to imagine such a thing.

I find it astounding the DOE, that demands from and foists upon its educators a stringent accountability, expects none from its own employees.  These five network leaders are listed as “liaison officers,” a curious job description. To be a liaison officer, one would think that one actually “establishes and maintains communication for mutual understanding and cooperation” (Free Merriam-Webster).

And, again, one would be wrong to imagine such a thing.

One of the “network leaders,” former St. Tammany Parish Superintendent Gayle Sloan, had the serendipity of retiring from her position one day before “retire, rehire” was no longer possible. So, she is paid her full retirement from the parish and her full-time DOE salary.

And, there are four other “leaders” who, from what can be determined, are conspicuous by their absence.

Mercedes Schneider, who wrote the post I’ve linked here, is a high school English teacher in St. Tammany Parish. She earned a PhD in Applied Statistics and Research Methods, with a concentration in counselor education in 2002.

Like everything Ms. Schneider writes in relation to education in Louisiana, her post is insightful, evidenced, and-sadly for students and educators in the state-an accurate accounting of the moral high-jinx happening under the tent of the White/Jindal circus. It’s a long post, because she earned a doctorate in research, and proves it.

FROM JERSEY JAZZMAN via DIANE RAVITCH:

“The reorganization of Newark into a two-tiered system of segregated charters and public schools was conceived using funds provided by Eli Broad. Interns paid by Broad came up with the plan to disenfranchise citizens in Camden and elsewhere. Broad paid for a consultant to reorganize the NJDOE; he also got the NJDOE to install one of the graduates of his book club unaccredited superintendents “academy” as the superintendent of Jersey City.”

Just for giggles, take a look at the new members recently appointed to the Broad Foundation :

Wendy Kopp
Chief Executive Officer and Founder, Teach For America

Paul Pastorek
Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Counsel and Corporate Secretary, EADS North America
Former Superintendent of Education, State of Louisiana

And, of course, guess who is a graduate of the Broad Superintendents Academy?

Yep…our very own John White, who wants to move beyond teacher evaluations and student test scores. Now, Superintendent John White believe students should be able to choose classes with an “a la carte” program because “schools are too confining; they trap students in chairs”:

“Louisiana plans to cut funding for each public school by about $1,300 for each class a student takes from an outside vendor. But many of the vendors charge far less; their average fees, to be paid by the state, are just $800.”
